Birthday Buds

February is birthday month at our house. Three of the five kiddos were born in Feb., making it another exciting and busy month.

These two little guys were born six years and three days apart. They share a special bond and Brant loves sharing his birthday week with Gavin.

Here is Gavin "helping" Brant with his homework on a recent afternoon:

Brant's big day came first on February 9th. He has been anticipating his eighth birthday for many months. He went to his first Cub Scout den meeting on the day after his birthday and he will be baptized at a Stake Baptism on March 7th.

We celebrated by inviting several of his friends to play with us at Jump-On-It. This place is great - with wall-to-wall trampolines and a few inflatable slides.

After jumping around for an hour or so, we went back to our house for pizza and cake. The boys stampeded into the house, leaving this in their wake: (I just love this picture. Seeing coats and shoes piled by my door makes me so happy. It means my home is filled with family, friends and warmth...)

I'm sure that like any eight-year-old, Brant's favorite part of the night was the presents.

And last, but not least, here is a little peak into the world of Brant Harrison Benham after eight years in our family.

Brant is definitely the most serious one of the bunch. We love that about him. At home he can be crazy sometimes but has impressive self-control for a kid his age and will calm down when he needs to. He is a thinker -not super-talkative like some of his siblings - so when he speaks we know to listen because it is usually profound and well thought-out.

He is a good student. He is in the Spanish Immersion class at school and has caught on to the language quickly. He doesn't like to speak much Spanish at home, outside of the reading that is required of him. But I was in his classroom recently when I heard his teacher ask him a question that I understood no part of and he answered her in this cute little Spanish voice.

Brant is a natural athlete, obsessed with all things sports-related. He will watch any sport on TV. Another characteristic that Brant has, not our favorite but we tolerate it, is that he is insanely competitive. Seriously, he must win at all costs. We're working on that. I think, though, that the basic "Do my best so I will win" attitude will take him far in life.

Brant gets along with most everyone and is loving and kind at home. He still likes to snuggle up and read with me, which I love. His favorite toy is this big guy:

All in all, Brant is a super-awesome, pleasant, loving guy. So thankful he is ours...
