Another Birthday Boy

Four years ago today, this little dark complected cutie was born. He is our Utah baby. Sometimes mistaken for a Mexican. He loves trucks and football and acting crazy with his brothers. Riley is his favorite, though. When he wakes up in the middle of the night, he goes to her room and crawls in bed with her. He was a gift to our family after we moved here and we are thankful for the blessing he is in our lives.

Our birthday morning ritual was a bit tricky with Gavin because he is always the first one awake and Trent and Brant had stayed up past midnight playing XBox with their Uncles, cousins, and the Parkes boys. Gavin waited patiently for everyone to wake up so he could open his sibling gifts. He was so sweet, saying "thank you" in the cutest little voice after he opened each present.
Later, Mimi, Opa, Uncle Dave, and the Jaspersons came over and we had a little birthday fun. It needs to be noted that every one of his gifts were ones that he has picked out/freaked out over at Kohls at one time or another. Except for this one...
When we were in Alabama at Christmas, Gavin's cousin Aidan had this sweet pair of Toy Story cowboy boots. Gavin wanted them really bad. He would put them on whenever Aidan wasn't looking and he even tried to convince Aidan that they didn't fit anymore and he should give them to him. I looked and looked for those cowboy boots before Christmas but I couldn't find them. I even bought him this other completely hideous grey snake-skinned pair, only to bring them back because I couldn't bring myself to let Gavin wear them around everywhere. When we got back to Utah, I found the Toy Story ones at Kohls, on clearance no less, and snatched them up for Gavin's birthday. I didn't take a picture of him with the boots on, but rest assured they will show up in numerous pictures on the blog. Promise.

We munched on sliders and birthday cake...
About the cake... OK... Gavin and I go to Sams Club every other week. One of our rituals is to watch the lady decorate cakes. Gavin is fascinated by it and reminds me every time that he is getting one for his birthday. So, yesterday we went to Sams and picked out his dream cake. He has never said which character he wanted on his cake. I don't think he cared. He picked out the lovely Sponge Bob creation. At his party, right when Trent lit the candles, before we sang, Gavin yelled, "I wish I could sleep on the top bunk!", and blew out the candles. He's awesome.
After an unfortunate vomiting incident... really, any good Benham party ends with a vomiting incident... Lance had to take a bath and Gavin jumped in with him. After the bath he put on the sweet bath robe he got and played with his new toys.
He loved the card from the Jaspersons...
...and snuck in a little phone conversation with his fan club in Alabama before he headed off to bed in his newly assembled bunk bed... on the bottom bunk.
