Sixth Grade Field Trip

A couple of Fridays ago, I had the pleasure of accompanying Trent and the rest of the Sixth Graders from Harvest Elem. on a field trip to the Clark Planetarium in downtown SLC. The students seemed to have an enjoyable time touring the planetarium. We watched a film about black holes in the domed theatre, then a 3-d film about moon exploration. Afterwards we took a walk around the Gateway and ate our sack lunches inside the old train depot. It was fun to spend time with Trent and his friends and nice that he actually wanted me to come with them.

Here are some of the students waiting for the movie to start. That's Trent's teacher, Mr. Bilbao, is in the middle with the red t-shirt on.

As you can tell, Mr. Bilbao is young and fun and his students think he's the coolest. (Hey, Mr. Bilbao!)
At the planetarium gift shop we picked up some chocolate-covered insects and BBQ flavored larvae.
I thought it was a little strange that the boys seemed to prefer the insects and larvae to the white sack lunches that the cafeteria ladies lovingly packed for them. Hmmmm...... You see, they are required to bring the lunches from the cafeteria on field trips. No home lunches. I am not sure why they have this rule, but I packed plenty of treats on my purse/cooler so they wouldn't go hungry.

After they ate, they went over to gross out the girls.

Sounds like a thrill a minute. Their next field trip needs to be to a barber shop. You should suggest that to the little kid in the red shirt.
