(Celebrating a 3/4 birthday}

Because we're right in the middle of our birthday season around here, and because everyone gets to have one except for Lance, we celebrated his 3/4 birthday today. Lance loves to be checked out of school early. And in our family the birthday child gets to be checked out on their birthday and taken to lunch by mom. Lance's real birthday is during summer vacation, so he's never gotten to do that. Last year, I promised him that I would check him out of school on his half birthday, but this year it happened to fall on the day before they all got out of school for Christmas Break. That meant that we were busy with class parties and such. During the past few weeks as he has watched his siblings celebrate their birthdays, he has been really bummed so we decided that March 16th would be his day. The funny part about it is that last night Lance told Ricky, who was unaware of our plans, that he was getting checked out of school for his 3/4 birthday. Ricky looked at me and said kiddingly (mostly), "Are you serious? We're celebrating 3/4 birthdays now?". I have to admit that it is kindof funny, but Lance needs a little pick-me-up right now. He's pretty excited about it and made this list of things he wants to do.

1. Get checked out.
2. Go to a spring trip to Wal-Mart. (He wants to get spring-time things like sidewalk chalk, Fanta, and flowers for our garden.)
3.Go to Costa Vida. (His new favorite restaurant since Bajio closed)
4. Go on a bike ride.
That little pick-me-up was just what the doctor ordered. We had a really sweet time together and I think he'll be OK for three more months until his real birthday comes around.
