Scenes from inside a very lived-in car...
Well, our road trip is coming to an end. We have been gone from our home for 38 days. We have driven over 8000 miles in our car. We have spent close to 90 hours travelling on Interstates, making a giant triangle from Utah to Alabama to Washington DC and back to Utah. We have visited 24 states in the past 38 days, bringing our grand total of states visited as a family to 34.

Those are the numbers but really what has meant the most to us on this trip is the time we have spent with each other and with family and friends. We have had a lot of time to reflect and talk about our favorite memories. While the list of cool things we have seen and done is long, each of us agrees that our most precious memories that will remain with us forever are the times when we were able to relax together with those we love...at the beach, at cousins' houses, at grandparents' houses. Lance's baptism day was also a cherished time, when relatives from across the state gathered to celebrate that special time with us. What a blessing it is to be able to travel. That our kids are willing to travel together for so long, and still love each other. That our car gets us there and back safely. That our means make it possible for us to afford the gas. And last but not least, that our Alabama folks are willing to put up with us for that long. :)

As we approached Cheyenne, WY this afternoon, we were surprised to hear and see five Air Force jets fly in formation right above our car. When they circled back around we discovered that they were the Air Force Thunderbirds! We pulled off the interstate to get a closer look. After some research we found out that they were flying out of Fort Collins, CO that day. What a fun surprise after a long drive through Nebraska!
A little hard to see, but there they are...
