{Cutting down the tree}
This is definitely my favorite new Christmas tradition. For the second year in a row, we drove up to the woods near Strawberry Reservoir outside of Heber to chop down our perfect Christmas tree. This year, the Harrells came with us. The day was perfect. Although we were high enough to see plenty of snow, it was fairly warm. The dads parked the cars while the kids headed down the path in search of our trees...
The Harrells found theirs first...
Then we found ours. The height limit, according to our permit, is 20 feet. We figured this one was probably pretty close. When we measured it back at the car, it was actually 18 feet.
Ricky, Trent, and Jack drag it down the path...
Riley and Dana were in charge of the saw...
On our way down, we came across an animal hoof which Lance was fascinated by...
The trees fit nicely on top of our cars...
When we got home, we ended up cutting about 3 feet off the bottom in order to get it in the house. It looks alot taller in the yard...
At one o'clock, the tree had to wait for a more important matter. The Alabama-Auburn game! This year the menu included chocolate fountain, wings, dips, and leftover turkey croissant sandwiches...
Later, Ricky and I went to the Temple for a Stake High Priest Meeting. The Temple Presidency reserved a session just for our Stake. We met in the chapel together before the session for a talk given by a member of the Temple Presidency. It was a very special evening to be in the Temple with so many of our close friends. We sure love the people in our neighborhood and all of the friends that we have made through serving in our callings.
While we were at the Temple, Riley was kind enough to help her brothers put together their gingerbread house. I was so impressed with the great job they did. Not only did she take pictures of the process (love that girl!) but she cleaned up every trace of frosting and sprinkles before we got home....
