Today was a sad day. The Student Council Election results were announced and Riley didn't win. :( She knew that she was running against other strong candidates... awesome kids who are her friends. But in the end, two other students were the winners. She began the campaign running for Sophomore Class VP, but a week into it, they announced that they were combining all of the President and Vice President candidates into one "Officer position" and the top two winners would be Pres. and VP. This made it so that she was running against eleven people for two positions. Riley was upset when they made this change because she knew that there were two or three kids running for President who could totally beat her. In the end, the two who won Pres. and VP were both originally running for President. It was a strange and disappointing change. This afternoon when the results were announced, Riley texted me a frowny face. I waited on the porch for her and Trent to get home and we hugged and cried for a while. She said Trent was a sweet support to her after school. While we were in the front room thinking about happy things and planning for next year's election, (Yes, she already wants to try again next year) my thoughtful friend Lorri stopped by to drop off a bag of salt water taffy she had picked up for us on a recent road trip. You know they say that taffy patches the cracks in the heart...

Riley had a soccer game in Mapleton later that night. She thought about skipping it, but after talking to Ivy (who also lost her bid for class secretary), they decided to go. I love this picture because it shows the resilience of these two girls...sweet friends and a strong support to each other...
This picture sums up the day. Riley's coach knew when the election results were being announced. Coach Michelle asked her about it right when we got there and I think her face says it all. Disappointment, but that sweet smile still finds a way to shine through. I sure love this girl of mine. I am so proud of her...
I borrowed Trent's fancy camera to photograph the game. I'm not as good at using it as he is, but we liked this picture of the ball in midair...
Ready to take the field...

Just like in so many things they do, Riley and Ivy play in the Forward position right next to each other. They make a good team...
Riley is #13...
After the game, we stopped at Cafe Rio for dinner, then I dropped them off at the home of the girl who won the position that Ivy was running for. She was having a party with the other two kids who beat Riley to celebrate their wins. Riley and Ivy were excited to go congratulate their friends. Classy girls those two are...
