Unattended

A little more than a year ago, Ricky and I realized that we had finally reached the point in our family that we could sneak off occasionally for Date Night and our children were old enough and responsible enough to look after each other in our absence. You can read about it here.

In the last year we have enjoyed more date nights than we've had since we started our little family. Last night for our date we decided to go to the Temple. I am always a little nervous to do that since the kids can't get in touch with us while we are there. But I have seen Riley and Trent care for their younger brothers enough to know that they can handle pretty much any situation that comes up, barring an extreme emergency. And they know they can call a neighbor if they need help.

So last night we left, giving the kids the same instructions. Normal "house rules" apply, plus a few extras. I always tell them that I don't really mind if they make a mess as long as they are safe and everyone is happy. The Temple was crowded and we had to wait a while to get into a session. When we left the Temple it was 10:30 and like always, I called home to make sure everything was OK. Trent reported that everyone was fine and still awake, including Gavin. Twenty minutes later when we arrived home, we opened the door to this:
And Trent greeted us excitedly to show us what they had been working on all evening. (Besides dragging every sleeping bag and pillow in the house to the living room floor.)

I was impressed. So there you have another part of the adventure that we call our life. We are blessed to be able to share it with these cool people who call us Mom and Dad.
